20-year-old Daniel is due to be released from a youth detention center. Having secured a job at a sawmill in rural Poland, he confides to a priest that what he truly wishes is to follow a religious path: an impossible future given his violent history. Yet once in the small town a bond with two local women compels Daniel to abandon his ordinary job. Before long he has taken over the local parish, determined to heal the community in the aftermath of a terrible tragedy.
Jan Komasa’s (“Warsaw ‘44” – PÖFF’s opening film in 2014) haunting third feature mines tension from the sliding boundaries between faith, spirituality, sacrifice and redemption.
