Anna Wintour („The Devil Wears Prada” and „The September Issue” heroine), the editor-in-chief of „American Vogue”, was not born yet when the fashion editor of „Harper’s Bazaar” Diana Vreeland was already a prominent fashion expert in Wintour’s future home town. Vreeland was as persistent and powerful as Wintour, but considerably more open and sociable, bringing winds of change and shaking up the fashion world. Photographer Richard Avedon has said that Diana is and was the only ingenious fashion editor.

Diana Vreeland: THE EYE HAS TO TRAVEL is an exciting biography of this bright fashion icon, with Lisa Immordino Vreeland, the wife of Vreeland’s grandchild, as the producer and director. The film includes original frames and interviews that were made during writing Vreeland’s biography. Diana was devoted to her career and she was determined to achieve her goals since childhood. She started as a columnist at „Harper’s Bazaar” and soon continued as the fashion editor. She then became editor-in-chief of „Vogue” and consultant at the Costume Institute of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Considered to be ugly by her mom, Vreeland focused on self-actualisation and always valued personality more than looks. And it was namely her bright personality that got her to the top.

As a fashion editor, Diana wanted to offer her readers something they would have never expected. This is hopefully also what the audience of the documentary about Vreeland feels. Vreeland would love that.
