Giovanni, the theorist. A committed intellectual and prophet of social integration, lives in the historic centre of Rome. Monica, the pragmatist. An ex-supermarket checkout girl, living with the everyday social integration in the suburbs of Rome. They would never have met if their children had not decided to start dating. Monica and Giovanni, both victims of the ruthless prejudices surrounding the social class of the other, are the most diverse people on the face of the earth, but have a common

goal: the romance between their children must end. To complete the common purpose, the two begin, despite themselves, to attend and enter into each other's world: Giovanni, accustomed to arthouse cinema films, finds himself following his daughter into a chaotic suburban multiplex, with screaming kids, pushing each other around and baskets of popcorn rolling on the floor. Monica, who has always been used to spending her holidays in Coccia di Morto, between vast expanses of bodies all crammed together as sardines in a tin and with airplanes that drain their fuel overhead, will find themselves in the ultrachic nature reserve of Capalbio, between intellectuals, VIPs and improbable conversations about contemporary art. Until something between them suddenly changes. Both understand that they cannot do without one another, even if they suspect their romance will last "LIKE A CAT ON A HIGHWAY".
