The competition programme is a mixture of the freshest ideas, of traditional and also innovative currents. The competition programme is primarily made up of short films that represent artistic animation and which captivate with their multi-layered content and skilful visuals. The competition programme brings to you the finest animations from all over the world, from Argentina to Israel. A total of 35 of 500 films made it into the competition programme.

1. Father - Spain 2013, 12', dir/prod: Santiago 'Bou' Grasso, technique: puppet

During the end of the dictatorship in Argentina, a military's daughter passes her days serving her sick father, completely absent from the outside world.

2. The Kiosk - Latvia 2013, 7', dir: Anete Melece, prod: Saskia von Virág, technique: drawn

For years now, the kiosk has been Olga‘s little home simply because her sweet tooth and monotonous life has made her bigger than the exit. To distract herself, she reads travel magazines and dreams of being far away. An absurd incident starts the beginning of her journey.

3. Plug & Play - Switzerland 2013, 6', dir/prod: Michael Frei

Anthropoid creatures with plugs in place of heads are up to mischief. Instead of abandoning oneself to the dictates of the raised finger, they soon submit to themselves. But the fingers also finger around. Is it love?

4. Sharaf - Sweden 2012, 13', dir/prod: Hanna Heilborn, David Aronowitsch, technique: documentary

"The boat was like a fly on the ocean. We just drifted without food or water." 17 year-old Sharaf is one of many refugees who have arrived in Gran Canaria in recent years. Sharaf's story gives a voice to those who made it through the journey alive, but also to those who died at sea.

5. Electric Soul - Finland / South-Korea 2013, 5', dir/prod: Joni Männistö, technique: stop-motion

An electrifying view to a buzzing micropolis.

6. Lay Bare - UK 2012, 6', dir/prod: Paul Bush, technique: pixillation

A composite portrait of the human body assembled from details captured by close-up photography of over five hundred men and women of all ages and from all over the world. The surface of the human body is revealed as it is rarely seen except in the most intimate relationships we have with our family or our lovers; a portrait of the body that is both sexy and tender, elegant and witty.

7. Betty's Blues - France / Belgium 2013, 11', dir: Rémi Vandenitte, prod: Les Films Du Nord, technique: drawn, puppet

The story begins in the basement of a worn-out blues bar in Louisiana in the 1980s. A few regular customers are having a drink. A guitarist gets on stage and everybody comments on the newcomer. The guitarist draws the attention of the audience by tapping the microphone. He introduces himself. He will tell them the true story of Blind Boogie Jones.

8. Granny - Georgia 2013, 11', dir: Sandro Katamashvili, prod: Vladimer Katcharava, technique: drawn

At the sewing machine granny is sewing an endless peace of cloth. Light goes off time after time in the street which makes gathered people to complain.

9. Communicating Vessels - Estonia 2013, 4', dir: Andres Tenusaar, prod: Kerdi Oengo, technique: drawn

The biosphere is full of dense connections. The addition of something in one place means the disappearance of another thing in another place. If something new is added, changes that no one expected can occur.
