‘White lamb's dream’ dir. Hrant Vardanyan, 14 min, 2013

What does the world look like when seen through the eyes of an innocent lamb? Masterfully shot and acted, Hrant Vardanyan’s colourful tragicomedy is a formally refreshing phantasmagoria about the evils of the modern world.

‘Ballet’dir. Naira Muradyan, 17 min, animated, 2013

The story of one very unlucky family who goes to a premiere one evening and sees its life unfold in the play. At once dark and whimsical, ‘Ballet’ is a stylistically opulent mélange of analogue and digital animation made by one of the reigning masters of the medium in Armenia, Naira Muradyan.

‘Me too’dir. Lilit Movsisyan, 15 min, 2012

But is his sensitive vision of reality a symptom of an illness or simply a refusal to be indifferent like the world outside? Fearlessly independent, prolific and experimental, Lilit Movsisyan is one of the youngest and most provocative filmmakers currently working in Armenia.

‘Where have all the mushrooms gone?’, dir. Harutyun Alpetyan, Nvard Yerkanyan, Melik Karapetyan, 25 min, 2013

Тhree characters appear out of nowhere in an empty Soviet-style resort . They slide like shadows across the deserted place, eating, relaxing, playing games and exploring. Are they remnants of the past or time-travelling tourists? Reminiscent of works by David Lynch, Jim Jarmusch and Derek Jarman, ‘…mushrooms..’ is an absurdist, deadpan comedy that works as an allegory about the end of history. Collectively made by the three actors while on a holiday, the film is one of the more unique recent examples of experimental cinema come from Armenia.
