"Carmine Street Guitars" accomplishes elegantly that which only good stories can – to be space specific and universal at the same time. The film follows the life of a small guitar shop in Greenwich Village, which acts as a time capsule of a sort. The owner of the shop does not understand the need for social media but can tell a detailed story about every New York building from which he has received wood for his guitars. The guitars are still made by hand and the people in the shop have no difficulties of recalling music events that date back over half a century. The visitors, who are always talented and often famous, are united by their deep love for music. Music is the universal language they use. But a broker selling the house next door, makes one wonder how long such a small world can survive within the bigger one.
