When Lambs Become Lions

How to depict complicated topics so that the audience would not be discouraged but at the same time the film would not downplay the complexity of the subject matter? Even though the illegal poaching of elephants in Kenya is not a light topic, „When Lambs Become Lions” appears to have found an ideal way to open up the subject in all its complexity, while being as gripping as an action film. The film follows two men who represent the opposing sides of the story – one is an illegal poacher, while the other is a ranger protecting the endangered species. Over time the film draws out the manifold relationship between the two characters and exemplifies that the problems of illegal trade rise far beyond individuals, making it impossible to describe the situation using categories such as good and bad, or right and wrong
