Artis Cinema offers a selection of arthouse and other quality films in comfortable and modern surroundings. The 181- and 72-seat cinema halls screen primarily European films, but Asian box office smashes and American indie films make an appearance as well.

As of the beginning of 2011, Artis is a member of the pan-European network Europa  Cinemas. This organization was founded in 1992 and unites cinemas in 68 countries in 566 cities. In the Europa Cinemas network, films are screened in 1,005 cinemas on a total of 2,778 screens. The goal of the organization, financed by the European Union’s MEDIA programme, is to support the screening of European films in cinemas (including Asian and Latin American cinemas) and activities aimed at a younger audience.

Artis is managed by Tallinnfilm, a company which has been shaping the Estonian cinema landscape for 70 years and which is responsible for opening the Sõprus cinema in its new 2004 incarnation as an arthouse cinema.  In 2005, Tallinnfilm earned recognition from Europa Cinemas for “best youth work” and children’s and youth programmes continue to be front and centre at Artis cinema.
